Zhangjiajie is not a city with sights in it. It is two mountains, a canyon and a cave, spread across forty kilometres, and almost every part of it is ticketed separately.
That matters more here than anywhere else in China. Work through a list of “top attractions” without checking what is included in what, and you will pay three times for things you thought you had already bought — or skip something that was free with a ticket already in your pocket.
So this list is organised by the thing that actually decides your day: what you have already paid for, and what you have not. Prices are from the official 2026 fee schedule published by Zhangjiajie Tourism.
Inside the park ticket
One ticket, CNY 240, valid four consecutive days from the first scan, covering everything in this section plus unlimited eco-bus travel between them. Six of the nine things worth doing here are in this group, which is why the four-day validity is the single most useful fact about Zhangjiajie.

1
Yuanjiajie and the Avatar Hallelujah Mountain
The reason most people come. A plateau of sandstone pillars with the natural bridge and the pillar renamed after the film. It is also the most crowded place in the park by a wide margin, and the viewing platforms are narrow.
Go first thing or late. Mid-morning you will queue to stand at a railing.
- Cost
- Included · the elevator up is not
- Time needed
- 2 – 3 h
- Worth it?
- Yes, unavoidably
-
2
Tianzi Mountain
The northern plateau. Wider views than Yuanjiajie, noticeably fewer people, and the place photographers wait for the sea of cloud after rain. If you only have time for one plateau and you do not care about the film, this is the better one.
- Cost
- Included · its cable car is extra
- Time needed
- Half a day
- Best conditions
- Early, or the clearing after rain
-
3
Golden Whip Stream
A flat valley walk of about seven kilometres along a stream, looking up at the pillars instead of down from them. No cable car, no lift, no queue — the only major part of the park that asks nothing of you but walking.
The macaques along the path are habituated and will go into an open bag.
- Cost
- Included
- Effort
- Flat and easy
- Time needed
- 2 – 3 h
-
4
Huangshizhai
A large plateau in the south of the park with a circular walking route. The local saying is that you have not been to Zhangjiajie if you have not been to Huangshizhai, which is the kind of thing local sayings are made up to say — but the circuit is genuinely good and considerably quieter than Yuanjiajie.
- Cost
- Included · cable car extra
- Time needed
- 3 – 4 h with the circuit
-
5
Ten-Mile Gallery and Yangjiajie
Two more included sections that most three-day itineraries never reach. Ten-Mile Gallery is a valley walk with an optional monorail; Yangjiajie is the least-visited corner of the park and the one people who stay a week keep going back to.
These are the argument for using the fourth day on your ticket.
- Cost
- Included · the monorail is extra
- Crowds
- The lightest in the park
Checked 14 Aug 2026 Inclusions and the CNY 240 four-day price per the official 2026 fee schedule, which names Huangshizhai, Golden Whip Stream, Yaozizhai, Yangjiajie, Yuanjiajie, Tianzi Mountain, Ten-Mile Gallery and Suoxiyu as covered, along with the eco-buses.
Charged separately, and worth it
-
6
Tianmen Mountain
A different mountain on the edge of the city, with its own ticket and its own day. The cable car from the urban edge to the summit ridge is one of the longest in the world. On top: the glass skywalk pinned to the cliff, the 999 steps, and the natural arch called Heaven’s Gate. Below, the 99-bend road that everybody photographs.
It is the single biggest fee in Zhangjiajie and the only one we would call unarguable.
- One-day pass
- CNY 288, includes the round-trip cable car
- Mini cableway
- CNY 25 one way, extra
- Cliff escalators
- CNY 32, extra
- Time needed
- Most of a day
-
7
The Bailong Elevator
Not an attraction so much as a decision. Three glass lifts built into the cliff face, taking two minutes to do what costs you about two hours on foot. On a three-day trip with a lot of ground to cover, that trade is worth CNY 65.
- One way
- CNY 65
- Return
- CNY 130
- Alternative
- About 2 h of climbing
Charged separately, and arguable
-
8
Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon and the Glass Bridge
The most photographed structure in the region and a genuinely impressive span. It is also a separate scenic area entirely outside the Forest Park, capacity-capped, and it sells out in season.
Our honest read: if you have three days, the bridge competes with a fourth day inside the park, and the park wins. If you have four, take the bridge.
- Canyon only
- CNY 60 plus CNY 3 insurance
- Canyon plus bridge
- CNY 50 + 125 plus CNY 3 insurance
- Experience package
- CNY 120 for the zip line, lifts and slides
- Booking
- Daily cap, book ahead in peak season
-
9
Baofeng Lake and Huanglong Cave
These two are sold hard by every agency in Wulingyuan, and they are the two we would drop first.
Baofeng Lake is a small mountain reservoir with a boat ride and staged singing from the banks. Huanglong Cave is a big karst cave, competently lit. Both are fine. Neither is why you flew to Hunan, and at CNY 121 and CNY 125 they cost about the same as another day of the thing you actually came for.
- Baofeng Lake
- CNY 121
- Huanglong Cave
- CNY 125
- Our view
- Skip both unless it is raining hard
Checked 14 Aug 2026 Both prices from the official 2026 schedule. Aggregator sites advertise seasonal rates as low as CNY 48 and CNY 55; the official table lists no seasonal variation, so treat the cheaper figures with caution.
Huanglong Cave is the one thing here that is better in bad weather, because it is underground and the pillars are invisible in heavy cloud anyway. If you lose a day to rain, that is when it earns its CNY 125 — not before.
What it adds up to
Doing everything on this page comes to roughly CNY 934 per adult before cable cars. Doing the six included sections plus Tianmen and the elevator comes to CNY 593, and that is the trip most people should take. The full breakdown is on the tickets page.
Mistakes
- Paying for the park twice. The ticket runs four days. People buy a second one because they assume it expired.
- Booking Tianmen and the Forest Park on the same day. Different mountains, forty minutes apart, and each is a full day.
- Letting an agency bundle Baofeng Lake and the cave into a “must-see” package. They are the padding.
- Skipping Yangjiajie and Ten-Mile Gallery when you have already paid for them and have a day of ticket left.
Public traveller reports through 2026 consistently rate Tianzi Mountain above Yuanjiajie on the experience and below it on the crowds, and repeatedly describe the Yuanjiajie viewing platforms as the single most congested spot in the park.
