Harbin Ice and Snow World is the ice city in every Harbin photograph: buildings, towers and slides cut from blocks of Songhua River ice and lit from inside after dark. It opens every winter on the north bank of the river as the centrepiece of the Harbin Ice Festival. The 2025–26 edition, the 27th, covered about 1.2 million square metres with more than 2,000 ice and snow sculptures, and Xinhua described it as the largest build so far.
This page covers the practical side: Harbin Ice and Snow World tickets, hours, getting there and the one timing decision that changes the visit. Prices below are last season’s. The 2026–27 edition had not announced its dates or prices when we checked.
Checked 27 Sep 2026 Site area and sculpture count from chinadiscovery.com (2026 page); “largest scale” from Xinhua (25 Nov 2025). No 2026–27 announcement found in English or Chinese on 27 September 2026.
Harbin Ice and Snow World tickets
| Ticket | Price | Who |
|---|---|---|
| Standard adult | ¥328 | Adults |
| Concession | ¥240 | Children above the free limit, students, seniors |
| Free | ¥0 | Children under 6 or under 1.2 m; adults 65 and over |
| Entry plus evening show | ¥340–498 | Bundle listed by one guide; inclusions not confirmed |
We found one all-day ticket, not separate day and night prices. If you see a “night ticket” quoted for Ice and Snow World, check the date on it: some other Chinese ice parks do split their tickets, and older Harbin pages sometimes did.
The price can change within a season. When warm weather hit in February 2026, the provincial tourism department announced a cut to ¥228 adult and ¥168 concession for a planned reopening. The park closed for the season on 21 February instead, and tickets for 20–28 February were refunded in full, with free entry to the next edition for holders who show their ID.
Checked 27 Sep 2026 Prices and free-entry rules from chinadiscovery.com (2026 page); February 2026 price notice from the Heilongjiang Department of Culture and Tourism (19 Feb 2026); closure and refunds from China News Service (21 Feb 2026).
How to buy
International booking platforms, including Trip.com and Klook, list Ice and Snow World, alone or bundled with Sun Island, and take foreign cards. We could not confirm from the park itself how the gates check foreign passports, so book with the passport you will carry and keep it on you. On New Year’s Day and during Spring Festival, buy before you travel to the park rather than at the gate.
Checked 27 Sep 2026 Klook and Trip.com listings found in Google results for “harbin ice festival” on 27 Sep 2026. The gate procedure for foreign passports is not confirmed.
Opening hours, and the hour to arrive
In 2025–26 the park opened from 10:00 to 22:00, with the last tickets sold at 21:30. Opening at ten does not mean you should go at ten. The ice is lit from inside, and the buildings look like frosted glass in daylight and like lanterns at night. Arriving around 15:00 gets you both: an hour of daylight to find your way around, then the lights coming on.
| Date | Sunrise | Sunset |
|---|---|---|
| 21 December | 07:11 | 15:51 |
| 5 January | 07:14 | 16:02 |
| 20 January | 07:07 | 16:19 |
| 10 February | 06:44 | 16:50 |
The evening is also the coldest part of the day. January averages −22.4°C at night, and the park is on the open riverbank. Most people’s visit ends when their feet give out rather than when they have seen everything. Dress for that; Harbin in winter has the kit list.
Checked 27 Sep 2026 Hours from chinadiscovery.com and the Heilongjiang provincial government’s opening notice (Dec 2025). Sunrise and sunset calculated for Harbin with the NOAA solar algorithm; January mean low from China Meteorological Administration normals (1991–2020, via Wikipedia).
Getting to Ice and Snow World
Take metro Line 2 to Ice and Snow World station. Exit 3 leaves you about 50 m from the east ticket hall. In 2024–25, rides between Ice and Snow World station and Sun Island station, one stop away, were free, so you can do the Sun Island snow sculptures in the morning and walk straight in here afterwards. At peak times a shuttle has run inside the site from the east gate to the south gate to spread the crowds.
| From | Distance | By taxi |
|---|---|---|
| Central Street | About 7 km | About 20 min |
| Harbin Railway Station | About 12 km | About 30 min |
| Taiping Airport | About 40 km | About 45 min |
Those taxi times are for normal traffic. On festival evenings the city asks visitors to use public transport, and the metro is the reliable option.
Checked 27 Sep 2026 Metro station, exit, free transfer and shuttle from The Paper (21 Dec 2024) and Guangming Daily (22 Dec 2024); road distances and times from chinadiscovery.com. Confirm the free transfer for 2026–27 when the season opens.
Inside the park
The headline ride is a 521 m ice slide. ChinaDiscovery gives an age limit of 15 to 60 for it. The queue is the complaint you will hear most, and we have no reliable wait-time figure to give you, so ride it early in your visit, before the evening crowd builds. There is also a large Ferris wheel and more than 20 winter activities, from skating to snowmobiles, some of them charged on top of the ticket.
Keep your phone in an inside pocket. Lithium batteries drain fast and can shut down in this kind of cold, and it will happen at the moment the lights come on.
Checked 27 Sep 2026 Slide length, age band and activity count from chinadiscovery.com. Battery behaviour is standard manufacturer guidance, not a Harbin-specific source.
Crowds
Weekends, New Year’s Day and the Spring Festival are when the park fills. The record so far is 19 February 2026, the third day of the Lunar New Year, with more than 120,000 visitors in one day. Spring Festival 2027 falls on 6 February, so the week after that date will be the busiest of the coming season. Weekdays in the first half of January are the quietest time the whole park is reliably open.
Checked 27 Sep 2026 Attendance record from China News Service (21 Feb 2026); Spring Festival 2027 date from sinowander.com.
